Can't Teach a Dog New Tricks [or Treats!]

Happy Halloween to all Sylvester Stallone / Rocky fanatics around the world! We found one more picture of Rocky [SYLVESTER STALLONE] and his pal Punchy. We thought that it would make a sweet Halloween treat [and it won't rot your teeth]!
- Craig Zablo

The final round of the Academy Award®-winning Rocky franchise hits theatres Friday, December 22, 2006. Written and directed by SYLVESTER STALLONE.

As an added bonus for SYLVESTER STALLONE / ROCKY fans, here's Sly's response to another question sent in by STALLONEZONErs!

Craig: Sly, fans would love for you to do commentary tracks if and when your movies are re-released on DVD. Are you up for that? Is this something you enjoy?

SYLVESTER STALLONE: I do enjoy it. You sit down and you just have a glass of wine and you start to look at something in the cold light of day and it's good. And I think [if] you find humor in it, the one thing is, you know, you try not, at least I try not to take myself too seriously. But quite often when you're doing the film you're like you're in this deep, you know, morass of moodiness. And you go, you're not thinking straight but, you know, afterwards you go, "Oh that's just a movie. Now lets talk about it and have some fun with it, maybe."

What a cute and adorable picture!, Craig THANK YOU SO MUCH brother, you have no idea how much your work means to ROCKY fans around the world. This has been the best halloween ever thanks to you, and Sly of course!:) Punchy is SO CUTE!, even cuter than Butkus!, these pictures just seem to get better and better! ABSOLOUTELY CANNOT WAIT FOR ROCKY BALBOA!!! I wish it was Christmas already but we still have eight more weeks to build up even more excitement (if that's even possible) Sly and Craig you both have made this the most special year of my entire life life(No Joke!) I just wish I had someone to share it with, I am the only person in my entire family who really LOVES ROCKY! So it does get a little lonely sometimes, I have all this CRAZY pent up excitement and energy for these movies and no one to close to me to share it with or talk about it with. My mom promised me that she would take me to see this film on opening day/weekend but it just still isn't the same. It's like this big HUGE event and very touching/special occurrence in my life that will happen ONE TIME AND ONLY ONE TIME! with no one else but ME to share it with. Except thanks to you Craig, I get to come on this blog and discuss this film with complete strangers whom I will NEVER EVEN MEET! which makes it somewhat special:) Actually to tell you the truth, I have been a Stallone fan for almost ten years and I have never seen a movie of his in the theater, Rocky Balboa will be my FIRST time seeing my hero on the big screen! Craig thank you so much, this means the WORLD to me. Sly, I Love you so much, thank you, you probably have NO idea just how much you and your movies mean to me and to the rest of the world:) Every day I wake up thinking about this movie and it brings tears to my eyes:) - Aron Scott

I agree. When will MGM/Sony/Revolution come up with a new trailer? Seems that there needs to be more marketing involved for this movie's upcoming release. I already saw another movie's TV AD: "We Are Marshall" starring McConaughey that is also opening on the 22nd of Dec like "Rocky Balboa." ... Craig tell the movie studio execs out there what's up with the hold up. Do they want Balboa to succeed in the box office? At least we haven't seen "Dreamgirls" either. lol .. because that's opening on the same date as well.

And even if there is not going to be a new trailer or any TV Spots, who the hell cares!!! If the millions of Rocky fans at least are aware of this films release and if you (bloggers) are also aware, isn't that all that matters? This movie will be special NO MATTER WHAT! CRAIG does a marvelous and superb job so far in giving us the fresh updates, but one man alone dedicating himself to the cause can't do all the work by himself. where are the other people in the movie studios promoting this movie? rohit is right. 50 more days ago and ROCKY BALBOA needs more exposure to get the attention to people out there who don't know there's another ROCKY movie coming out. come on MGM/ REVOLUTION/ SONY ... hype up the site, hype up more trailers, make it happen.

I JUST saw the screening for Rocky Balboa and I must say that it is a truly great film. I Know it will have a big impact on many fans and it is also a sad movie as one scene that just put many in tears was before the big exibition fight Rocky calls punchy to go on his daily run, but this time punchy has seen his last run as he slowly dies in Rockys arms. Truly Heartbreaking! as for the fight itself? The entire build up to the fight is powerful especially the ring entrance, however as you all know, this is an exibition fight and it's almost an exact replay of the first apollo creed fight, so Im sure we all know what happened in Rocky 1 as Rocky loses a split decision.
anyways I have tons of info if anyone wants more info, my e mail is

YES!, I totally agree with y'all! I absoloutely HATE, DESPISE, LOATHE SPOILERS!!!! If you people come on here and give all the information about the movie away, why the hell would we even bother seeing it!??? I want to experience this movie first hand and view it for the first time with out knowing anymore about the story than I already do! Okay, they just had one of the first screenings of ROCKY BALBOA here in Orlando at Downtown Disney and I was lucky enough to score seats. There will be some general content spoilers, but I'm not going to get into any specifics. Hopefully some or all of this gets printed...

Let's just get one thing out of the way first: It's REALLY good. This is the Rocky we've come to know and love, the Rocky that went the distance with Apollo Creed (as opposed to the Rocky that street fought Tommy Gunn...).

It's not a lot of boxing or training really. There's a lot of character scenes here. Which is not to say it's aimless, there's simply not a lot of "action" for a long time, and the movie manages to build character and excitement for the main event. Meanwhile,Stallone manages to talk about some big stuff (namely man's will versus the chaos of nature) without getting too cheesy. People will want to call it cheesy, but think about it. How many movies in recent years have truly had a heroic figure?

We need this movie...you see, they don't really make movies like this anymore, at least none that are any good. This is more than just a great Rocky movie; this is an ode to man, a celebration of the heroic ideal, a testament to the strength of our volition, a view of man as he might and ought to be. Here, we have in Rocky someone who does what's right and follows his calling based on his beliefs and will, d**n the people who would disillusion him. (Echoing the real life story of the people who would mock Stallone for attempting a comeback)

As for style, Stallone shoots the movie in a way they don't really make movies anywhere, and it's a welcome change of pace. He utilizes a lot of gentle cuts and cross fades, and amidst some really great photography, especially the grainy night shots. People forget that Stallone can be a really good director.

Acting-wise, I wish Stallone didn't get so much crap. He's really a lot better than people give him credit for. Go back and re-watch the original Rambo, or even the original Rocky. He's instantly watchable and fills his characters with great idiosyncrasies in subtle ways that feel natural. Here, he gives one of his best performances and one of the best of the year. He totally inhabits this character, every single moment, the way his sentences kinda trail off at the end, his inherent sense of self and goodness, that look he gets in his eyes when he's hurt or has to dig really deep...

Oh, and allow me to quell what was one of my biggest fears going into the movie: Rocky is supposed to fight Mason Dixon based on the outcome of a videogame? I know that sounds like a terrible idea on paper, but it's not QUITE the entire truth. As the simulation is presented in the movie it actually comes off as something you might see on ESPN. It's actually really good and fits in with the reality of this alternate sports universe, where Rocky actually exists and is one of the all-time greats. In fact that's what was so surprising...this is a universe Stallone has created. Here, Rocky is a living legend. Everyone recognizes him walking around town, his restaurant is a local favorite, he's one of those disarming celebrities that's actually as nice in "real life" as one might hope him to be. Everyone loves Rocky. Yet at the same time, everyone is well aware that Rocky has no chance in hell of winning. But that's the position Rocky's always in, isn't it?

The movie is not perfect. There's this scene set to a terrible adult contemporary song in the beginning and then this terrible moment in the bar, both near the beginning of the movie, that are obviously terrible and dripping in cheese. Luckily, other than that, the movie soars. It's my favorite movie of the year. Not perfect but my favorite.

Because on top of everything I loved about it as an individual movie, at the end of the day, it's a new Rocky movie and it's GOOD. When the training music cues, if you're a movie fan, you'll have no choice but to clap and cheer at the sheer culmination of this moment. A moment that could not exist UNLESS there were 5 other movies preceding it. Same for the incredible match between Rocky and Mason, which is not only great in itself, but also has the weight of 6 movies. Rocky is BETTER because it's a sequel, but it's also a great movie in and of itself.

I'm so happy to have seen this.

And before anyone says plant...which is unfortunately inevitable...I will say this, I have a BNAT application in and if selected I'll see you at the Alamo Drafthouse and convince you in person that this is one of the year's best.

I'm with everyone else on this, I want to see trailers on tv. There are movies that are being avertised 2 months before the movie comes out. We need to see that, i've never actually seen any Rocky movie adverstised on tv. I was about 10 when the 5th came out and I don't remember seeing anything on tv about it. This movie is going to be great and everyone needs to see it.
Also, I was thinking of trying to getting a marathon of all the movies together the night before.I'm sure its too late for that now, but what I wanted to do is maybe start showing 1-5 around 12pm on the 21st and then lead on to the 6th in a actual theater. But getting the rights to do that and trying to rent out a theater in Texas would be a pain in the butt this close to the 6th coming out. Even then I doubt there would be enough people there for it to be worth it, i'd be happy to sit in a huge theater with my parents and watch it. But it would be soooo cool to get all the fans in one room like that and watch all 5 one after the other until the theater opens to the public and the 6th is shown. That would be the coolest thing ever, this is a huge event. We've been waiting for this for 16 years.....omg its just a little over a month away :D :D :D
I'll be waiting outside the theater on the 22nd so I can be the first one in :D

hey...i was thinking the same thing. You know when the last of the Star Wars movies came out, they played all six in the theaters. It would be so awesome if they would re-release the previous 5 Rocky movies that we could watch them back to back in the theater. So many of the fans were too young to see the first 2 AT the movies! And when you get down to it, the movies are so much more moving when you watch them back to back. (If you have never done that...I highly recommend it). What do you say? Re-release all the previous ones????

This is like a dream come true for all of us Rocky fans out there that have been hoping for this film to be done, the way that Sly wanted to REALLY do it. This film will go back to the roots, the emotions of the person we so closely identified and cared about. The music, the setting, the run up those stairs. The core-values that Rocky brought out...believe in yourself, and anything is possible. Hope, desire, determination along with the vision.

I know this is a movie, but the story of Rocky, the underdog in life, has imspired millions to beleive in themselves. Nice work Sly. "WIN ROCKY WIN"

sly, welcome back.... its been along time coming, seen the trailors and cant wait to watch the film. Rocky is an inspiration to alot of people, underdogs that are not given much of a fighting chance in life, but sometimes there is always a twist of fate, and im sure rocky inpires many people, myself included. i really imagined Rocky 6 to involve Rocky jnr as a fighter being managed by his dad, and fighting his way through the ranks, but then thats just repeating the same story, this looks great and i can see some funny scenes happening between you and burt young. cheers sly for bringing Rocky back.

This movie is going to be the best fighting movie we have had in a while. I love all the rocky's, i cant wait until this one comes out. It would have been cool if they would have gotten Mike Tyson to play the bad guy.

The great thing about this movie is, I would have seen it even if it wasn't a great sendoff. Even if it sucked I would have had to see it. There are so many closet Rocky fans in the world. When I got my ticket, one of the ticket sellers working at the theatre asked if I liked Star Wars and Star Trek and Lord of the Rings - I sort of looked at her with confusion and then almost contempt. I mean, I've seen those movies and they all have their positives but they are more for techno-geeks or just plain geeks. Rocky has a simpleness to it. An honesty that has universal appeal. A heart that transcends international, socio-economic, racial and ethnic boundaries. It is about taking your best shot at a dream and giving your best even if you don't alway win - even if you never win - it is about the human spirit. Everyone can relate to that. I felt bad for Darth Vader and liked the scenery in Lord of the Rings but otherwise, they were nice stories. I've studied at the best schools in the US, spent time with some of the wealthiest folks on the planet and studied under Nobel Laureates. I've also been homeless, been a Marine trying to get my ass home, and lost some of the people I've loved most in the world. No matter where I was - Rocky spoke to me. The Trekies and techno-geeks don't really get it. To those who strive for a dream through setbacks and sacrifice, there is only one Rocky - there will never be another.

Hello.I prefer to make this anonymous.I saw this page and am glad because I can write to say how wonderful the crew members or staff that works with Mr. Rocky Balboa,is and how they work as a team and made such an amazing film.I am not a fanatic but this movie gave me a chance to see how hard actors/actresses work to make something nice for their public.I thank God for giving me the opportunity of being near these people. And someone else which I will keep anonymous. The whole family saw the movie, and some friends did too. Some are boxing fans, others like me,enjoyed the film,as well.I saw that nothing is free in this world and that everything takes a lot of hard work and dedication.Even the shortest line of all.May God bless you.
