Two Worlds Collide

Rocky Balboa (SYLVESTER STALLONE), out of retirement and back into the ring with his new rival, Heavyweight Champion, Mason Dixon (ANTONIO TARVER). It's Old Lion against young lion, and will vs skill, when The Italian Stallion squares off against Mason "The Line" Dixon.
- Craig Zablo

The final round of the Academy Award-winning® Rocky franchise hits theatres Friday, December 22, 2006. Written and directed by SYLVESTER STALLONE.

As an added bonus for SYLVESTER STALLONE / ROCKY fans, here's Sly's response to another question sent in by STALLONEZONErs!

Craig Zablo: After "Rambo IV" concludes, what will be your next project?

SYLVESTER STALLONE: I'm gonna direct "Edgar Allen Poe" [without] being in it. "Yo, Poe!" doesn't work. I'd like to direct some nice young actor in it who can get the soul of Poe. It's a dark story, but the challenge is how to make it enjoyable, so it isn't that depressing. And then there's a book I've been looking at for a while called Homefront, which is pretty good and, you know, there's certain things that will crop up. The main thing is I'd, I'd much rather spend more time directing than actually acting.

I DO NOT wish to discourage any fans at all!... BUT... I really do not think that this movie will be marketed PERIOD! I am vey sad to say it but I just don't think that it is gonna happen(New trailers, Commercials, TV Spots, Advertising etc.) I keep reading hundreds of comments from people, pretty much everyone who comments on this blog complains about trailers and commercials and what not! But my fellow ROCKY fans, I would have to agree that we should at least see a couple tv spots here and there by now! I really do! But if it hasn't happened by now, maybe it never will. It is a damn shame that this gem of a film is not given more respect from the public/critics(who in my opinion have one of the stupidest and meaningless jobs in the world, all they do is badmouth movies for the most part, If they hate movies that much, then why the hell do they watch them? just so they can talk crap about them? But hopefully MGM/Sony will prove me wrong, I really wish they would market this movie, besides this blog, I really havent seen any news or advertising for this movie! But you know what? It really doesn't matter, as long as the DIE-HARD ROCKY fans are aware of this films release, that is all that counts:) We ALL will LOVE this movie with or w/out trailers and ads:) My fellow ROCKY fans...let us all spread the word our selves if we have no choice... ROCKY BALBOA opens in theaters all across the U.S. on December 22nd DO NOT MISS IT!:) Peace - Aron Scott

Here are some comments on some dood who supposely has seen one of the first screenings of the movie...

From AICN: "Okay, they just had one of the first screenings of ROCKY BALBOA here in Orlando at Downtown Disney and I was lucky enough to score seats. There will be some general content spoilers, but I'm not going to get into any specifics. Hopefully some or all of this gets printed...

Let's just get one thing out of the way first: It's REALLY good. This is the Rocky we've come to know and love, the Rocky that went the distance with Apollo Creed (as opposed to the Rocky that street fought Tommy Gunn...)."

...and that's all I allowed myself to read. Who the hell wants spoilers at this point?"

Yeah, it's dissapointing that there are so many hypesters nowadays. Movie will do fine, don't worry about the numbers or the dinero. Enjoy the movie, appreciate the efforts of a fine actor, writer and director. And the cinematography looks like it is going to be outstanding. Rocky movies stand the test of time really well.

Here's more on the movie..

It's not a lot of boxing or training really. There's a lot of character scenes here. Which is not to say it's aimless, there's simply not a lot of "action" for a long time, and the movie manages to build character and excitement for the main event. Meanwhile,Stallone manages to talk about some big stuff (namely man's will versus the chaos of nature) without getting too cheesy. People will want to call it cheesy, but think about it. How many movies in recent years have truly had a heroic figure?

We need this movie...you see, they don't really make movies like this anymore, at least none that are any good. This is more than just a great Rocky movie; this is an ode to man, a celebration of the heroic ideal, a testament to the strength of our volition, a view of man as he might and ought to be. Here, we have in Rocky someone who does what's right and follows his calling based on his beliefs and will, damn the people who would disillusion him. (Echoing the real life story of the people who would mock Stallone for attempting a comeback)

As for style, Stallone shoots the movie in a way they don't really make movies anywhere, and it's a welcome change of pace. He utilizes a lot of gentle cuts and cross fades, and amidst some really great photography, especially the grainy night shots. People forget that Stallone can be a really good director.

Acting-wise, I wish Stallone didn't get so much crap. He's really a lot better than people give him credit for. Go back and re-watch the original Rambo, or even the original Rocky. He's instantly watchable and fills his characters with great idiosyncrasies in subtle ways that feel natural. Here, he gives one of his best performances and one of the best of the year. He totally inhabits this character, every single moment, the way his sentences kinda trail off at the end, his inherent sense of self and goodness, that look he gets in his eyes when he's hurt or has to dig really deep...

Oh, and allow me to quell what was one of my biggest fears going into the movie: Rocky is supposed to fight Mason Dixon based on the outcome of a videogame? I know that sounds like a terrible idea on paper, but it's not QUITE the entire truth. As the simulation is presented in the movie it actually comes off as something you might see on ESPN. It's actually really good and fits in with the reality of this alternate sports universe, where Rocky actually exists and is one of the all-time greats. In fact that's what was so surprising...this is a universe Stallone has created. Here, Rocky is a living legend. Everyone recognizes him walking around town, his restaurant is a local favorite, he's one of those disarming celebrities that's actually as nice in "real life" as one might hope him to be. Everyone loves Rocky. Yet at the same time, everyone is well aware that Rocky has no chance in hell of winning. But that's the position Rocky's always in, isn't it?

The movie is not perfect. There's this scene set to a terrible adult contemporary song in the beginning and then this terrible moment in the bar, both near the beginning of the movie, that are obviously terrible and dripping in cheese. Luckily, other than that, the movie soars. It's my favorite movie of the year. Not perfect but my favorite.

Because on top of everything I loved about it as an individual movie, at the end of the day, it's a new Rocky movie and it's GOOD. When the training music cues, if you're a movie fan, you'll have no choice but to clap and cheer at the sheer culmination of this moment. A moment that could not exist UNLESS there were 5 other movies preceding it. Same for the incredible match between Rocky and Mason, which is not only great in itself, but also has the weight of 6 movies. Rocky is BETTER because it's a sequel, but it's also a great movie in and of itself.

I'm so happy to have seen this.

And before anyone says plant...which is unfortunately inevitable...I will say this, I have a BNAT application in and if selected I'll see you at the Alamo Drafthouse and convince you in person that this is one of the year's best.

If you use this, just call me "Sean." Real clever, huh?

Thanks,

Sean

And like the fan's comment above says... let's do are best to try to not pay these jerks (who come on here and try to tell us things about the movie) any attention! He is right, anybody can come on here and just make up stuff about the movie SO don't even buy into it, even though it is VERY rude of them to try and ruin it for the rest of us! Can you buy the action figures at say TARGET maybe, or only at toy stores like Toys R Us?

I hope Rocky dies at the end. It would be unexpected. SS could have filmed such an ending and kept it quiet all this time- just liek the I'm your father stuff of Star Wars. Have Rocky him win the fight only to die a shortly after that fight.

He needs to leave us as a champion who has learned what he really wanted and learned what he really lost. The gap between those two needs to be finished.
Is the fighter pride or is it love. The person Rocky needs to prove himself most to is himself. Where is his son? Do they got a good father son realtionship still. I heard abotu the wife. I wont say. And Does Mr T come into this movie and redeem his actions of the previous film. I love Mr. T i hope he gets to be a good guy this time.

I am hopeful that Poe will go into production now. It's a great artistic choice to compliment the more commercial projects/sequels on his slate for 2007-08.

What I've always wanted to see Sly in is a subdued, sleek European thriller. The kind of movies that were made by directors like Antonioni and John Pierre Melville in the 70's.

If anyone has ever seen The Passenger or Le Samourai, you'll know what sensibility I am referring to. No special effects or artifical noise, but mood and silences (like jazz music).

He could really embrace some great character roles well into his 60's. He's got the ability to pull it off should he opt to take the risks.

I'm looking forward to Rocky B. in the meantime.

He really is! I mean just go back and watch the ALL of the ROCKY movies, ALL OF THEM! yes even ROCKY V, or FIRST BLOOD, or Assassins, or Get Carter, or Daylight, or Eye See You! He is a tremendous actor, he has been my favorite actor for nearly a decade! no joke! I would love to see him in many more movies after Rocky Balboa and Rambo IV, he is only 60, he can still play many more roles! I can not wait for Rocky Balboa! It is just a damn shame that some jerks come on here and try to make up stupid crap and try to spoil this movie for us! But DON'T LET THEM! Don't buy into their BS! I don't believe that ANYONE in the general public has seen this movie yet! Come on people, it won't even be released for another 7 weeks! How in the hell could you have already seen this movie? well first of all the new rocky balboa offical website has an all new image, along with trailers from all the other rocky movies, and after the new trailer is released, it will be on the official rocky balboa website. Craig will get the left overs in a way...also on myspace Frank Stallone posted that his song take You back will open the film, NOT the rocky classic theme...

I gotta tell yeah, watching all those Rocky trailers 1 though 5 with the Rocky Balboa trailer just really hit me and made me realize how fast life went by with this amazing underdog story. I can't put it into words, this the final chapter, it feels like your cleaning out your school locker for the last time. Rocky Balboa, what else can I say.

I have to say, I am somewhat dissapointed that the film isn't opening with the traditional ROCKY fanfare theme and the title moving aross the screen. I don't know why Sly didn't have that open the movie, but I am sure that he has his reasons:) I still love that song Take Me Back! it is a good song, this is going to be the BEST film in the ENTIRE FRANCHISE! I really don't care if Rocky wins or loses the fight, it really doesn't matter! He will always be a winner in my eyes! I Luv Ya Sly!:) peace - Aron Scott

I don't like the comments about the ending of the movie. But it does not get to me. For starters, is it true? And second nobody can ruin this movie for me by saying how it ends, this spoiler is not giving away the identity of the killer in a great thriller or so....You Rocky fans should know that a rocky fight is to big for words. And the ending will fit perfectly with the whole movie, I thrust stallone on this one!!
And I don't think that Rocky will get knocked out... Like the man said "what's keeping him up Bill, I don't know"!

Is there going to be a playstation game about this movie?

November 10, 2006
Anonymous Anonymous said...

Yep. Remember the scene in Rocky where he's just received (and given, I might add) the beating of his life, gets up from a knockdown, and motions to Apollo to "c'mon?"

Immediately Stu Nahan, the commentator, says, "Apollo can't believe it," as Apollo looks down at the canvas and shakes his head.

That, my fellow fans, is what Rocky is all about! Pushing forward when everything inside you says "give up."

-Sgt Mendez, USMC

If Rocky Balboa captures that spirit, that element of the Itallion Stallion, then it's going to be awesome, despite the yoyo's on this blog trying to ruin it for everybody. They can't ruin becuase we already know who Rocky is.

Man, I cant believe it.
I give you credit Sylvester, you are like an Energizer bunny ...keep going.
I was your limo driver when you , Frank, your lovely wife and your newborn baby were leaving the Penninsula Hotel with a script to a movie, that I later realize was where you played a dumb cop in a small town in New Jersey.

I look forward to your new movie.

Well, just to confuse things (and not spoil things), maybe we all can make up our own Rocky VII storylines.

I still think that an awesome movie could be made by pairing Harrison Ford and Sylvester Stallone. A policeman played by Harrison Ford leads Rocky into a new adventure, something which causes Rocky to explore a forgotten area of his past.

who said rocky will get knocked out? thats so not true...when I saw the screening in florida i was excited and loved it,....yes the opening scene is take you back from frank stallone..not the music, just the words..also the ending is cool cause rocky is winning the fight and all of a sudden mason knocks him down in the 10th round, and he loses a split decision...the final scene was touching, especially when rocky says "yo adrian, we did it"...Love that movie...

Can everybody stop predicting/revealing the end of the movie PLEASE!!!!! STOP ALREADY!!! Who cares if Rocky loses or wins!? I don't know how many times I have to tell fans that it doesn't matter!!! Just sit back and enjoy it when the time comes!!! And all of you who are deliberately trying to ruin this for us... you all can go to hell as far as I am concerned... you people are just low... you have NOT seen this movie yet, OK? I know for a fact that you haven't seen this movie! We haven't seen a new trailer since July and still no tv spots, so how the hell could you have already seen the movie?! You haven't! So ENOUGH with your comments already!!!!!!!

First of all I HAVE seen this movie, and If you do your search on other sites you'd see that OTHERS have seen it as well. If you dont believe me ask Frank Stallone himself on his website. The movie ROCKS! yes rocky gets knocked down and loses a split decision and yes it ends as rocky is visiting adrians tomb and softly says "Yo adrian we dit it"..
but you dont have to believe me, you'll see for yourself...
and if you dont wanna know about any other movie then STOP reading posts cause screenings are everywhere, you just need to know where to look...

Silver:Cool picture cant wait this is the movie!
.I have waited and prayed for this in like 6 years.
January 5th when it comes to my country, that day is gonna be surreal :)

Craig: It’s hard to imagine how many people around the world feel the same way!

Aron Scott:What a great photo! This movie is gonna rock silver screens all across America, this is a TRUE American film! I cannot believe that this movie less than 2 months away, my god this is just MAGICAL, MYTHICAL, AMAZING... Sly, thank you so much this is the best Christmas present anyone could have given me EVER!:) I wish I had something to give you besides my blessing and best wishes:) You are going to make this the MOST special Christmas that I have ever had so far! THANK YOU:) And Craig, what can I say brother, you are amazing:) and thanks againg for another wonderful pic! Peace -

Craig: It’s amazing how such a truly American movie is one that is embraced by people all around the world. Thanks for the thanks, Aron!

.Big J AWESOME PIC. and the fact that Sly is going to direct Edgar Allen poe is awesome!

Craig “Poe” has been Sly’s dream project for over 30 years… it should be amazing!

SlyStalloneFan Sly we are all looking fwd to your new projects behind the camera or infront of it :) Love ya Rock..........

Craig Amen to that!

Jazz Can't wait to see what Sly has planned with POE. Visually and everything else.

Craig You just KNOW it’s gonna rock!

The Evil Pickle I really can't wait to see wha Sly does with the Poe movie. I know he's been keen to do this for years and would love to see the darker side of his persona as a Director/Writer.

Craig We’re all in agreement then!

Bridget It will be great to see what Sly can do with Poe, a subject he is so passionate about. Anything Sly is always interesting. Can't wait.

Craig The countdown to POE has begun! LOL!

Fan of 30 Years Great pic! Thanks Craig!

Craig You’re welcome!

Aron Scott Don't worry about the trailers, commercials, ads, numbers, or the money that this film rakes in... just simply enjoy and appreciate it (trailers and ads DON'T matter) we are all still going to experience and cherrish this movie anyway aren't we?

Craig Well said.

CMoney Another great picture. Can't wait for the movie! 8-)

Craig Thanks!

Charlotte Very cool pic.Sly is amazing. The fight will be huge.!!!! The movie will be HUGE!!! Januray 24th in France, yahaaaaaa!!!

Craig Sly IS amazing!

Sgt. Menendez it's pretty sad that someone would come on this blog and try to ruin this movie for true fans. Pathetic! I wish Craig would filter these posts before they actually went public.

CraigSgt., I understand your thoughts, but we want everyone to be able to get their thoughts up quickly to increase communication around the world about “Rocky Balboa.” Don’t let a few knuckleheads spoil it for you!

Desmond I am hopeful that Poe will go into production now.

Craig Great post, Desmond! “Poe” is slated after “Rambo IV.” I’d love to see Sly do “Hunter” before “Poe” but I’m with him whatever he chooses. The movies you describe sound very cool. I’ll have to check them out sometime!
Lonnie On a Positive note....I'm fired up to see this movie. I'm a 42 year old athlete and this movie inspires athletes that are still hanging in there after 20 years or more. I can't wait!!!!

Craig 30 years and Sly’s still inspiring us!

Anonymous So when the new trailer is released, it will be posted on this blog, right? I can't wait.

Craig I’ve requested it!

Isacc GO FOR IT , GO FOR IT ROCK .... NO PAIN , NO PAIN .
YOUR FAN NUMBER ONE FROM CHILE

Craig Yeah, baby! Another country on board!

Real Wizzard Man, I cant believe it. I give you credit Sylvester, you are like an Energizer bunny ...keep going.

Craig Yeah, he’s like a Timex watch…

After having the fortune of viewing
the screening of ROCKY BALBOA recently here in Michigan my first
thoughts were It's OSCAR TIME Again
and there is no doubt that the movie will take 1st place! The movie is Phenomenal! Falling under
some very good graces from the man
above, I also got a chance to meet
Slyvester Stallone who is a genuine
blessing and inspiration not only to the Big Screen but for all of us
who have our daily battles. His words '"It's Not How Hard You Can Hit; It's about How Hard You Get Hit and Keep Moving On"' that gave
me the motivation to fight an unforeseen disability that's looking at me straight in the eye.
As Stallone ROCKS the Entertainment
World it's our Kiss From Heaven -
Rocky Balboa is our Holiday Present
in advance. Will I be seeing it
again? You better believe it...
Only 16 days until opening day!
